Well, I fought with the computer all day yesterday trying to get the planner out the night before my kitchen day. It turns out I won't be able to have my Kitchen Day today anyway. So, tonight I'll be putting things together for my Kitchen Day tomorrow. I hope the planner is helpful to you. Looking through it I discovered what is missing: A Menu and Shopping List! So, later this week I'll be adding those to the Kitchen Day Planner and I'll have them for you from now on each week so you can cook along with me if you like.
You may be wondering why I chose Wednesday for my Kitchen Day. When I read the book Large Family Logistics, I decided to take on this idea of every day having its own purpose. So, Mondays are generally my planning day (Menu, shopping list, and coupon cutting, etc.) Tuesdays are my errand day (grocery shopping, farmer's market, etc.) and so Wednesday is my Kitchen Day. This also works out nicely because we go to church on Wednesday nights and it was often hectic trying to scrape together dinner before church. This way I have a whole selection of meals already planned and prepared before dinner time and our Wednesdays are much smoother now.
You can make this work for you by choosing your own perfect Kitchen Day. What day do you find yourself struggling to get dinner together? Is it a busy day, a busy evening, or maybe a day you struggle finding motivation? If you are busy that day, maybe make your Kitchen Day the day before so that you know you already have a dinner in the freezer for that day. Or, make it the day after, put a chicken or pot roast in the crockpot to cook for dinner and then you already have a head start on the next day's work by having leftover meat already prepared for casseroles and soups.
Personally, I find Kitchen Day to be motivating in itself, because it is so rewarding to see yourself filling up the house with good healthy food for your family and friends. We round off the week with a dinner party or afternoon tea with friends so that we have something good to look forward to as we cook and clean. What a reward to spend good time with family and friends! And what a powerful lesson for our little ones: our hard work is a blessing to all because we can share the results with those we love.
